If the director James Cameron would have attended the IPL opening ceremony at the DY Patil Stadium on Friday night he could have surely thought of making a sequel of Avatar. The chorus of an hour fantastic opening ceremony of the Indian Premier League III appeared as the characters of his Hollywood blockbuster.
The opening event was a mesmerizing show of Hollywood touch with Bollywood tadka. An electronic reproduction of the new-age national anthem, Jai Ho was the highlight of the event.
The night was full of lights, fireworks and gizmos. The international line-up had famous performers including Lionel Richie, Ali Campbell of UB40 and Bjorn Again but it could not take over the bollywood’s magic. The diva Deepika Padukone had performed immensely and looked more energetic than the cricketers who performed later in the evening.
The ceremony started with eight captains taking the “MCC — Spirit of Cricket” oath of respecting their opponents, teams and umpires. The captains also signed the Spirit of Cricket Board.
